What to Expect from Telehealth in 2022

In our recent blog posts, Lessons Learned from Telehealth in 2021 and Telehealth Success Stories from 2021, we looked back at how telehealth and telemedicine enhanced communication, consultation and collaboration between EMS and hospital teams last year. Now we turn our attention to innovations and opportunities for 2022, within—and especially outside of—the hospital.

Prepare for ET3 expansion that will benefit EMS, hospitals, patients, as well as Mobile Integrated Healthcare and Community Paramedicine teams

In 2022, we will see an expansion of Emergency Triage, Treat, and Transport (ET3) models delayed by the pandemic. These will build upon the foundational work of treat in place, transport to alternative destinations and 911-triage intervention. GD e-Bridge will help providers fulfill the program requirement of having a telehealth component for video conferencing.

By fully utilizing telehealth, EMS & hospital users are likely to experience:

  • Compliance with ET3 requirements
  • A reduction in unnecessary transports
  • More efficient use of first responder and hospital time
  • Reduced overcrowding in the ED
  • Lower acuity patients getting the care they need faster at the appropriate location
  • Improved quality of care at lower cost

We have learned from our clients and the industry that mobile telehealth technology connecting EMS and hospitals is ‘force-multiplier’. One which has been accelerated by workload demands and constraints caused by the pandemic as well as by ET3 (despite limited implementation). Which collectively help deliver on the goal of providing Right Care – Right Time – Right Place.” – Curt Bashford, CEO – General Devices

Expect Mobile integrated Healthcare and Community Paramedicine teams to use telehealth more effectively

More and more organizations will utilize telehealth with greater success to support Mobile Integrated Healthcare in their communities in 2022. By implementing telehealth solutions regionally to serve wider populations, organizations work together to bring quality healthcare to those who need it.

As communities increase access to care through  telehealth, they will see:

  • Increased collaboration between EMS and Hospitals as they continue to work closer together using telehealth technology.
  • Lower hospital readmissions by providing preventative services for medically underserved communities, including post-discharge care, monitoring chronic illness and targeting high-risk patients
  • A reduction in unnecessary transports and hospital readmissions
  • Improved continuity and quality of care at a lower cost
  • Mobile telemedicine / telehealth technology as a common denominator in the blending of emergency and non-emergency care.
