MD1 and GD (General Devices) – Bringing the Physicians to the Emergency

MD1 is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing physicians to the emergency room.  Created and led by Dr. Mark Merlin, MD1 is a team of physicians that respond and practice at the scene, to extend the capabilities of emergency medical services (EMS) and paramedics. Dr. Merlin has been developing his team for two decades, and has created a service that can arrive on-scene equipped with diagnostic tools, blood, ultrasound capabilities and more.  They deploy highly-trained physicians to the sites of crashes, accidents, strokes, heart attacks, natural disasters, mass casualties and other emergencies requiring advanced life support. Their capabilities include giving blood, advanced airway techniques, surgical procedures, field amputation, advanced procedures on the heart, etc. so they can help EMS save more lives.

When it came time to choose a technology system to help provide that life-saving medical care, Dr. Merlin chose GD e-Bridge mobile telemedicine app.

By making use of the feature-rich GD e-Bridge mobile telemedicine app, MD1 Program’s physicians will be able to connect quickly and collaborate with other team physicians and ultimately area EMT’s, paramedics and hospital emergency departments. Using the GD e-Bridge app, first responders can initiate contact with MD1 physicians through an alert system- no individual phone calls or time-wasting emails necessary.

Once the team is alerted, EMS can give details and preliminary diagnostics, including pictures and exam data; MD1 physicians can confer with EMS and each other; and together they can decide whether their services are needed at the scene. If MD1 is needed, they decide which physicians are on their way and EMS can track them with live ETA updates and continue to give patient status updates until the physicians arrive.

Why is the e-Bridge app preferable to phone or text? As GD President Curt Bashford explains, “Voice tells you one layer of information; a picture says a thousand words; video says a million.” When lives are on the line and every second counts, you want every layer. You want a million words. You want GD e-Bridge.

MD1 is revolutionizing the way critical emergency services are conducted, and they’re using the revolutionary GD e-Bridge mobile telemedicine app to extend their reach.

About MD1

MD1, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, is a first-of-its-kind charity focused solely on bringing doctors to the site of emergency situations. To put it simply, MD1 brings the emergency room to the patient, instead of vice versa.  Beginning in New Jersey, but with a goal of organic expansion, MD1 will deploy highly-trained physicians to the sites of crashes, accidents, strokes, heart attacks, natural disasters, mass casualties, and other emergencies requiring advanced life support, where minutes, even seconds, can mean the difference between life and death
